More UFBH Hounds Need Help

The bassets listed on the Available Bassets pages are merely the ones ready to be adopted. UFBH has other bassets in our care who may not be ready for adoption. Other rescues are in the twilight of their lives and will remain with us until the end.

  • Daisy (000000194)

    10 years and 6 months.

Daisy is a very sweet adult basset that has a permanent limp from a previously broken leg. Going down the steps is not too bad for Daisy but coming up is very difficult. Her foster mom often helps her navigate the steps into the house—there's only two, but they are very steep. Daisy ideally needs a home with very few steps or none at all. She doesn't seem to be in any pain from the leg, but some days are better than others as far as moving around is concerned. She is a very happy dog and holds her own with the other bassets, even engaging them in play as long as things don't get too rowdy. Daisy never starts any dog "arguments" and avoids anything that looks a bit rough and tumble. She's a little timid about meeting new people, but it doesn't take long to win her over. Daisy would very much like a home that's a bit on the quiet side. Another playmate would be great as long as they prefer snuggling to roughhousing. Good food, a comfy place to sleep and love is all she really wants.

Thank you to my Virtual Foster, Auntie Shawn!

(Daisy has been in UFBH's care for 1 years and 6 months.)

  • Gordon (000000197)

    2 years and 3 months.

There is still a lot of puppy left in Gordon. He loves to run and play and chase. But he also still needs the love and care that young hounds need. He is very good about using the doggie door to go outside when he needs to, but is not always good about telling you if there is no doggie door. Gordon needs a home where there are people that will love him, care for him and interact with him. Long walks would be good to help burn off the excess energy, then long lap time so he can share his love with you. Gordon may need a little reassurance that he is loved until he comes to trust you. Please give Gordon the home that he so much deserves. He is too young to be homeless.

(Gordon has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 6 months.)

  • Marian (0000000234)

    4 years and 4 months.

Marian has come a very long way since being dumped in the Uintas with a batch of puppies. (The puppies were saved also and have since been adopted.) She came to UFBH with kennel cough and pneumonia and is now a happy, healthy, beautiful basset hound. She is crate trained and almost totally potty trained. She loves kids. In fact, she is sweet and loving to everyone she meets. She loves her walks and enjoys every smell that comes along. She has a foster sibling and is very good with other dogs. She is just an all round great basset that would love to come be part of your family.

(Marian has been in UFBH's care for 10 weeks.)

  • Raven (0000000236)

    3 years and 0 months.

Raven is a friendly and outgoing basset with a bit of a "take charge" attitude. By that we mean that she would like to be the boss of the other dogs in her world. Because of this, she would be best with only one other hound friend or even as an only dog. Raven likes cats but sometimes shows a little too much interest for the comfort of the cat. In spite of bossy nature, she does play well with other dogs and goes to doggie daycare on a regular basis. Raven would be a great companion for someone with a mildly active lifestyle—she likes to go on walks or just lay around the house. Raven uses the doggie door faithfully for her outside business. She's very affectionate and has a lot of love to give.

(Raven has been in UFBH's care for 10 weeks.)

  • Snoopy (0000000265)

    6 years and 3 months.

Snoopy is a laid-back, un-demanding guy who is really happy doing anything with his person/family! He is always happy to cuddle and chill out with someone, especially if that "someone" is into giving ear and tummy rubs, but he just loves, loves, LOVES going for strolls or even hikes (he walks very nicely on a leash). If he has to go a day or two without a walk, he's OK with a game of tug or a good romp in the yard, especially if he has another dog to wrestle with, but a long walk really brings out the best in him. He also likes car rides and would be an excellent candidate for sessions at the dog park, as he gets along great with dogs large and small, and seems to like people of all ages although we haven't had him around very young children (2 and under) for any length of time yet. He has also been fine with our cat and birds. He is crate trained and house broken, and would do best with a dog door, since he isn't really forceful about telling you when he needs to be let out. As long as the dog door has been open, he has never had an accident. He enjoys having a crate to sleep in at night to retire to if there is a lot of commotion in the house, but normally he likes being in the middle of things. He is very food motivated and will gladly learn anything you wish to teach him if there is a treat involved! He is a very good dog, and just needs someone who will consistently reinforce his good behavior. Snoopy says a special "Thank You!" to his virtual foster friend, Kari K.

(Snoopy has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 7 months.)

  • Lucky (0000000255)

    4 years and 9 months.

Lucky is a take-charge kind of guy who needs a home with a strong human pack leader who is willing to set and consistently enforce rules so he doesn't have to worry about being the boss himself. He is very well house-broken and uses a doggy door or waits to be let out. He also walks on a leash very nicely and knows sit, stay, wait, leave it, and OK. He is smart and learns quickly, as long as he knows what is expected of him. He has tons of energy outside and loves going for long walks or hikes or having a play session in the yard. He is very calm and quiet indoors, only barking when someone comes into the yard or to the door. He is a perfect gentleman on car rides and loves going places. Lucky is learning about cats. If the cat is fearful and runs, he will give chase, but if the cat stands its ground, he will ignore it. Lucky is fantastic with older kids (about 10 and up) who are respectful of animals and know how to treat them. He is defensive and uncomfortable around young children, and they could be knocked down if he gets a little rambunctious while playing. He gets along great with other dogs of all sizes and would love a home with another pooch, but he is also OK as the only dog. In his foster home, he is left alone about 8 hours on weekdays and is completely trustworthy with free-roam, but he also loves his crate.

(Lucky has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 9 months.)

  • Charlotte (0000000261)

    9 years and 8 months.

Charlotte is a lovely older lady that spent her entire life living in the backyard. She has made a graceful transition and finds that she much prefers living indoors. She does require somewhat of a quiet home. One front leg is very twisted and the vet recommends extra rest, lose some weight (which is partly done) and no steps if possible. Besides these simple requirements, she would like nothing better than a quiet place to lay in the same room where you are spending time. She would be very happy as an only dog, but is also fine with others as long as they are not too rowdy. She is mostly house trained and does not jump on the furniture. She is also fine with cats. If you have a quiet place with few steps and need a companion, Charlotte could be exactly what you're looking for.

(Charlotte has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 8 months.)

  • Gertie (0000000271)

    8 years and 7 months.

Gertie came to UFBH at about twice the weight of a normal basset. She was immediately examined by our vet and put on medication for her low thyroid. Some more work remains to get her down to a healthy size. In spite of the fact that she looks like a coffee table, she has great personality and a lot of love to give. Due to her weight, short walks are best and some light massage makes her very happy. She is house trained, good with cats (of course she can't catch them) and seems to just love everyone. Gertie needs a home where her diet can be controlled and she can continue to get limited exercise until she is a slim, trim little girl again.

(Gertie has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 6 months.)

  • Sherman (0000000280)

    1 years and 11 months.

(Sherman has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 5 months.)

  • Oden (000000145)

    4 years and 6 months.

More information on this 'wiggle worm' coming soon!

(Oden has been in UFBH's care for 0 years and 3 months.)
