Utah Friends of Basset Hounds's 5th annual Wasatch Waddle fundraiser is coming! Join UFBH on March 15th to waddle in the St. Patrick's Day parade! Once again, we will be waddling approximately ten city blocks (through the Gateway shopping area downtown) Salt Lake City, Utah. Marching bands, floats, horses, dancing troupes and other civic groups will be represented.
So what is a waddle?
A waddle is a fundraiser similar to a walk-a-thon. You raise money in the form of pledges per city block that your hound completes in the Waddle. (Don't worry if your hound is older or not able to keep up on foot...er, paw, we provide the Pooped Pup Pick-up Truck just for you!)
Pledges? How do I get pledges?
Our fundraising goal for the 2008 Wasatch Waddle is $10,000! We know the goal is lofty, but we are sure you can help us reach it! Just remember that all the money you raise for our fundraiser directly benefits the homeless hounds! 100% of the donations goes to veterinary and boarding expenses for the bassets in UFBH care.
If you are stumped for how to raise pledges, think about the things YOU make that people love. It might be cookies that you could take to your office...offer six cookies to each person willing to pledge $10! This is just one idea of many!

You can win prizes!
As in years past, there are opportunities for you to win prizes. The Grand Prize is for the waddler who brings in the most pledge donations and we have several other Raffle Prizes, too.
Grand Prize—For those of you familiar with the David Handler book series featuring Lulu, the basset hound, you may recognize the face of the Waddle this year! Yes, the artist and author who did all the cover art for the reprinted Stuart Hoag mystery books, Colin Cotterill, has donated his talent to UFBH.
Whoever brings in the most money in pledges gets to take the original signed print home—framed as part of the Grand Prize!
Raffle Prize—You can purchase raffle tickets online for $1 a piece. For every individual pledge you bring in, you will also receive one 'free-bee' ticket. (You must attend the Waddle to be eligible to win the raffle.)
Waddle Attire

UFBH will provide you one free t-shirt per registered waddle party. We also provide derbies and bandanas for the hounds (we ask that the bandana be worn over their collar or tied on the leash so that it is visible). We ask that at least one person in your party wears the 2008 Waddle t-shirt because the more people in our Waddle t-shirts the more attention UFBH will get! Beyond that, wear something in keeping with a St. Patrick's Day theme; shamrocks, derbies and of course, lots of green!
Breakfast with Bassets

Come early and join us for a light continental-style breakfast! UFBH will provide free beverages and food to registered participants.
Waddle Checklist
Things to consider:
- PLEASE bring only hounds that can handle socializing with other dogs, children and parade participants— as well as, noise, action, crowds and horses.
- Please limit yourself to ONE HOUND PER PERSON, PER LEASH. Two hounds on a leash with a coupler will be acceptable. No MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE WALKING WITH ONE DOG—too many people block the view of the hounds.
- Any hound without current rabies certification will NOT be able to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
Come prepared for cold and/or wet weather!

Things you should bring:
- Current Rabies certificate
- Collar and leash (no flexi-leads)
- Waddle Disclaimer
- Water and/or food dish
- Umbrella/rain gear
- Lawn chair

Registration
Cost to register is as follows:
- On-site for one person and one hound (includes t-shirt, breakfast for one, and a bandana)—$35.
- Additional person(s) or hound(s)—$5 each.
- Addtional t-shirts—$18.
- Additional raffle tickets—$1 each.
Preregistration is no longer available. Please visit us at the parade tomorrow for on-site registration.
